I am planning to write a book called Angels in the Night, which will include accounts of dreams in which various types of angelic figures or beings of light have appeared.

"Just as I'm falling asleep, I become aware there are some creatures holding a large sign in front of me. They become very active and seem to want my full attention. This continues for some time. Finally I pay attention and say: 'What is it?'
"The creatures then clarify into angels, each holding a post card in front of me. They announce that I must begin letting people know that angels often place messages into people's dreams. They explain that they borrow someone's dream for an instant and place their message within the plot and action so that it is encoded in the dream. They do this often, they say. They want me to be sure to tell people that their dreams often include these 'postcards from their angels'. I agree to pass this information along. I'm very moved, and it all seems quite real. After this, the creatures seem to evaporate and I awaken feeling very tingly." This next account came from Frank Faulk from CBC Television in Toronto, Ontario. He had the dream about a year earlier: "I am approached by a bright light. It has no definite form. But I recall feeling very excited in knowing that 'it' was a messenger of God. It hands me a letter. I take the letter and feel thrilled that I am personally being sent a letter from God. I feel chosen. I keep saying to myself. 'I knew it!! I am special!' I have a strong sense of elation. "With great anticipation, I open the letter. I read the greeting: 'Dear Humanity:' ... I feel a sense of disappointment because the letter is not addressing me personally. I feel as though I have just received a form of cosmic junk mail from God--like the 'Dear Occupant' junk mail we all get. I feel this tremendous sense of deflation. I am not special. Then, all of a sudden, I have this dawning realization: I am humanity! I experience a sense of calm elation, a sense of quiet joy and peace." Frank wrote that this extraordinary dream had become "a bit of a touchstone for me. Whenever I'm feeling alienated and disconnected, I recall this dream. Recalling it makes me feel grounded and calm. The dream helps connect me to a sense of 'us-ness', as opposed to the more typical us/them mode of consciousness". | ||
